CLASS LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS

FOUNDATION — Suitable for new students, those returning after a long absence or students from other types of yoga. This level class offers a good foundation for ongoing yoga practice.

LEVEL 1 – Reinforces and builds on foundation level asana including Salamba Sarvangasana (shoulderstand). A methodical introduction and preparation for Salamba Sirsasana (headstand), as well as alternatives for those who cannot invert. Backbends are introduced as well as simple Pranayama.

GENERAL – This class is for all students, other than Foundation level students. Inversions and alternatives are included, along with some deeper backbending asanas.

EXPERIENCED – This class is for experienced Iyengar Yoga practitioners who are familiar with inversions and variations. Students will preferably have a regular home practice.

MENS’ CLASS FOR SENIORS – In the senior years balance and stability are vital to prevent falls. To give confidence and stability, props (wall, ropes, chairs etc) are used in this class. For example, in standing poses the wall is used for stability in back leg and heel, and the chair is used for students to extend out to chair top to create length through torso and spine.
